Upper Cumberland Habitat for Humanity's Official Event Sponsorship Policy
Purpose of Policy:
Habitat may solicit and accept sponsorships for events within the terms outlined below.
Sponsorship monies are deemed a desirable form of revenue diversification which furthers the mission of Habitat. Habitat would not be able to host events without sponsorships.
Habitat may consider in kind, indirect, and monetary sponsorships.
Habitat will issue charitable tax receipts in return for sponsorship funding.
Specific sponsorship levels and benefits will be decided by the event organizer or committees.
Decision Process:
The Board of Directors is ultimately accountable for the sponsorship policy and for approval of individual sponsorships. However, event organizers and committees shall be free to solicit, accept, and negotiate most sponsorships without delay of taking decisions to the Board of Directors. In the event event organizers or committees have questions regarding a particular sponsor’s compliance with the criteria for sponsorship, the event organizers of committees shall bring their concerns to the Board of Directors for approval or denial. The Board of Directors reserves the right to retroactively deny a sponsorship which has been previously approved by the event directors or committees.
Only reputable individuals and organizations whose image, product, or services do not conflict with Habitat’s mission or values may be considered as sponsors. There is no obligation to accept any sponsorship offer. Habitat’s long-term reputation and credibility always takes precedent over short-term monetary needs.
While each potential sponsorship agreement will be considered on its merits, and judgement and discretion will characterize the decision making, the following questions will always be raised:
Sponsorships shall be denied which promote political violence, including but not limited to terrorism.
Sponsorships shall be denied which promote adult-oriented products or services.
Sponsorships shall be denied which promote environmental, work, or other practices that, if they took place in the Upper Cumberland, would violate U.S. or state law (i.e., dumping of hazardous waste, exploitation of child labor, etc.), or that constitute violations of law.
All sponsorships shall be reported to the Board of Directors, within regular event reporting or status reports, so that a database can be maintained with approved and denied sponsors.
Signage:
Sponsorships shall be contingent on the Board of Director’s approval of all event signage, including but not limited to logos and slogans, of sponsorships. Office holders that sponsor a HFH event will be referred to by their held office, but if a sign is part of the sponsorship agreement, UCHFH will design the artwork which will not have any reference to the officeholder’s campaign slogan, even in a non-election year. Sponsor FApproval of the artwork will be obtained by UCHFH. Habitat, and the Board of Directors, reserves the right to review and modify event signage and to deny sponsorships in the event the sponsor refuses to comply with Habitat’s suggestions for modification.
Disclaimers/Rules:
Habitat shall publish a “Sponsor and Advertiser Rules and Regulations” statement on Habitat’s website, which must also be agreed to by each sponsor as a condition of sponsorship. (to be written by April 18, 2022)
In no circumstance will Habitat become involved in a situation that requires it to endorse a sponsor’s product or service. Habitat shall recognize that the general public will assume Habitat has researched its sponsors. The following statement will be posted on the bottom of each webpage that has sponsor recognition in it.
