Executive Director Job Description
The Executive Director is responsible for the development and execution of the financial, operational, and administrative plans for the Upper Cumberland Habitat for Humanity.
Reports to: Executive Board of Directors Salary Range: $60-$80k (Exempt) Position Type: Full-time/On-site Location: Cookeville, Tennessee
BOARD RELATIONS:
  • Participate and provides administrative support, including training, policy development &
    implementation, generating reports, preparing annual calendar, & budget for Board of
    Directors.
  • Participate and provide administrative support for all subcommittees (Family Selection, Family
    Support, Church Relations, ReStore, Construction, Site Selection, Development, Board Nominations, Personnel, & Long-Range Planning).
    ADMINISTRATION:
  • Overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations.
  • Recruit, select, manage, and develop staff; to compensate appropriately.
  • Leads staff in developing, maintaining, and using systems and resources that facilitate the
    effective operation of the organization.
  • Attend trainings at regional, state, and national level.
    COMMUNICATIONS AND PUBLIC RELATIONS:
  • Serves as the public face and primary spokesperson/advocate for the organization.
  • Understands brand value, marketing strategy, research, and planning. Uses these skills to
    promote relationships with stakeholders at the local, state, regional and national levels ensure
    effective partnerships.
  • Superb interpersonal skills; ease in communicating, public speaking, and interacting with a
    variety of constituent groups.
    CONSTRUCTION:
• Oversees all aspects of the construction process, including budget, to produce quality homes
in a safe, decent, and affordable manner.
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT:
  • Prepare annual budget according to Board adopted financial policies.
  • Ensure budgeting, accounting systems, appropriate financial controls and risk-management
    strategies are in place to ensure sound financial management and protect the organization’s
    assets.
  • Develop fundraising plan and coordinate overall fundraising efforts.
LAND PROCUREMENT/DEVELOPMENT
  • Has a basic understanding of real estate property acquisition and sales transactions.
  • Ensure organization has a minimum five-year land bank.
  • Work with board and staff to identify possible land purchases.
  • Work with city and/or county government to ensure all laws, codes, and zoning guidelines are
    met.
    MORTGAGE PROCESSING
  • Ensure that home closings adhere to ethical standards.
  • Responsible for oversight of delinquencies, foreclosures, and home sales.
    RETAIL MANAGEMENT:
  • Oversight of the ReStore to generate annual sales that further the mission.
  • Responsible for the ReStore financial and management success.
    STRATEGIC PLANNING:
• Develop, write and implement a visionary strategic plan. Communicate plan goals to all
stakeholders ensuring Habitat’s mission is accomplished. VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT:
• Organize & supervise volunteers in all aspects of operations. Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ professional experience in a philanthropic or non-profit environment.
    (Like-kind experience in the private sector will be considered, but board development and non-
    profit knowledge are highly valued.)
  • Fundraising and strategic planning experience, either as a CEO, ED, development officer, or
    board member.
  • Five or more years’ experience in a leadership capacity.
  • Must be able to manage operations with minimal supervision.
  • Some weekend work may be required.
  • Good working knowledge of IT systems and tools, including databases, spreadsheets, and
    standard office software.
  • Previous P&L responsibility; good working knowledge of budgets.
  • Integrity above reproach. An abiding commitment to values of faith, diversity, and inclusion; a
    reputation for fairness.
  • The ability to make difficult values-and faith-based decisions.
  • Self-confidence in the public sphere; astuteness in political and public arenas.
  • Superb interpersonal skills; ease in communicating, public speaking, and interacting with a
